Holy Ascension Church in Settle

Settle Church of England Primary School is a place where all children are valued and  allowed to flourish to achieve their potential.

Settle Primary is a Church of England School and as such we have strong links with the Holy Ascension Church in Settle. Often we work together on shared projects - such as in the past supporting Kwezana School in South Africa (our partner school) , helping homeless families,  supporting mothers and their children who have been victims of domestic violence or helping families who are struggling with debt during these recession troubled times.

Our school benefits from religious based assemblies once a week where the vicar Reverend Julie Clarkson, and friends from the churches together organisation visit the school and retell stories from the Bible using role play, drama and music. Often the children take part, join in the fun and share the acting!

The school and church work on shared educational objectives - our school ethos being influenced by core Christian beliefs of forgiveness, and the fostering of mutual respect and personal responsibility for ones actions.

The school holds family services throughout the year, including whole school worship at Harvest, Remembrance, Christmas, Easter and to celebrate the end of the academic year through a special Leavers Service.

Our school is proudly Christian but we teach our children to be respectful of all faiths and beliefs - whether this be Judaism, Hinduism Sikhism, Buddhism, Islam or humanism.

We hold collective worship assemblies each day and a special Praise Assembly is held each week to celebrate work from all the classes. Sometimes parents are invited too - which makes the occasion particularly memorable and special for the children.

We also have strong links with the local Methodist Church, with Reverend Tim Broughton serving also as a Governor at the School
