Settle Primary School has a proud sporting tradition and we provide significant opportunities to all our children, regardless of ability or gender. We partake and organise in a range of competitive sports between other primary schools in the Craven Area and we compete also within the independent sector and across regional borders.

We have three afternoon sports sessions each week and each session will as a general rule provide pupils access to three or four very different types of sport disciplines. This can mean children in Year 6 may experience rugby, dance, cross country and hockey in the winter and rounders, athletics, cricket and netball in the summer. This approach exposes children to a wide variety of sports and each PE activity is delivered by someone who has experience or been specifically trained in a particular sport.

We provide access to sport as a recreational sport that keeps you fit and as a competitive discipline which promotes and fosters character development and many life skills.

The following sports are provided at the school during the academic year: Football, Rugby (Contact and Tag), Netball, Hockey,Swimming, Cross Country/Fell Running,Cricket,Rounders,Tennis,Athletics,Gymnastics, Kick Boxing and Judo.

AFTER SCHOOL COMMUNITY CLUBS - We also offer  Football, Kick Boxing, Judo and Karate which run after school and are open to the community. Some of these clubs have had to pause due to the pandemic restrictions but are hoping most will resume in the coming months.

Pre-pandemic our school engaged in over 40 competitive events against schools across the North of England - competing with schools in both the mainstream and the independent sector. We were awarded the North Yorkshire Sports Premium Award in 2016 for our commitment and provision of competitive sports and in 2017 we were awarded the Spirit of Rugby Award for our commitment to providing rugby union opportunities to local families.

We have often been champions at local and regional events and often represent the Craven Area at the North Yorkshire Games (often for a variety of sports such as golf, hockey, rugby, netball).

Rugby: We regular play fixtures within the Independent Schools sector, have strong links to the RFU, North Ribblesdale RUFC,  and Keighley Cougars. A number of our staff are experienced coaches and we have one member of staff who is a level 2 coach. We also have an RFU School Development Award and were one of the first primary schools to ever be given this award (2012). One of our former pupils went on to become England Under 20 Captain.

Netball: We have recently been North Craven and Craven Champions and Runners up in the Yorkshire Games

Football: Recently we were North Craven Champions in Year 5/6 and Year 3/4 and have an FA Charter Mark for our school provision.

Cross Country Running: Many of our pupils take part in events across Craven and some of our children are selected each year for regional events, including the North Yorkshire County Finals Cross Country Event.
