Our Weekly News – 29/06/18

We have had a very busy two weeks in Reception with our Seaside topic – which has been greatly complimented by this fantastic weather!

In Literacy, the children have been busy reading seaside poems. We particularly enjoyed ‘Sharing a Shell’ by Julia Donaldson and had fun discussing and drawing our favourite part of the story. We have all written our own poem about the seaside choosing one of our senses – sight, hear, touch (things to do) and have written about past experiences at the seaside/ what we would do if we were to go to the seaside.

Within our classroom, the children have really enjoyed playing in our beach role play, seaside water tray and sand. During our afternoon sessions the children have had a range of opportunities: from making paper plate jellyfish, making ice-cream cones, designing seaside pictures on the computer and learning about Victorian beach holidays. Baking Betty has taught the children to make tuna sandwiches and beach biscuits.

In maths we have enjoyed doing some work with positional and directional language and have loved learning to programme Beebots accurately. We have also investigated shape. We have had fun playing games to describe a shape to a partner, find examples within our classroom, explored how the 3D shapes print and have even tried to build a 3D shape using art straws.

As well as all this, the children on Monday went to watch Robbie’s Rocket at the Richard Whiteley Theatre in Giggleswick. It was great to finally watch the show and to see Hazel & Andy in their roles. We were all amazed by Robbie’s Rocket and two of our Reception children even got to get dressed up as aliens and join in the performance. A big thank you to all the children – they were all so well behaved and set a super impression of Settle Primary School (which was not easy to do in the afternoon heat!)

And finally – it was time to say goodbye to our Nursery and Reception caterpillars who have finally transformed into beautiful butterflies – we wish them all the best!

OUR THEME FOR NEXT WEEK – Next week we are going to be learning about PIRATES.

TUESDAY & WEDNESDAY– Is our rescheduled dates for the Cycling experience.
