"Growing and learning Together - Settle Church of England Primary School is a place where all children are loved, valued and flourish to achieve their potential".
Settle Church of England Primary is a forward thinking, dynamic school that currently caters for children ages 3-11. We have approximately 200 pupils on roll , including Nursery Provision for up to 26 pupils. We are currently in an exciting formal federation partnership with Kirkby-in-Malhamdale Primary School and I am in the fortunate position of being in the role of shared, Executive Headteacher. Our two school governing bodies became formally Federated in July 2019.
In our schools we greatly value the relationships we form with our children and families and the role we have in supporting our local community. We always expect the children to come first in any decision making and for them to always be treated with respect, empathy and kindness. We work hard to provide an extensive range of opportunities for the children. We want our children to feel safe, to enjoy learning and to develop as confident strong individuals .
Creative, Critical and Positive thinking are at the essence of our curriculum at Settle CE Primary. We strive for high academic standards but believe that education does not always mean qualification. Our children are encouraged to develop life skills (cooking, first aid, financial management and STEM Learning (Science Technology Engineering and Maths) and personal attributes that include resilience and self mastery.
We are a lead school for Computing and became a CAS Hub provider in 2019. We have considerable expertise in STEM Teaching and are a Rolls-Royce National Finalist . From over 2000 entries we were awarded National Recognition as the Rolls-Royce Employees Choice Award Winning School in November 2018. In 2019 we were awarded the NFU Farmvention Award and again were national finalists for our STEM work. Our consistently good track record has meant that we have been invited to contribute to the Parliamentary Review in 2020 to share good practice with schools nationally.
We have a very successful Early Years Foundation Stage (teacher led Nursery and Reception) and we offer eligible working families 30 hours of free childcare on site as well as a breakfast club (open from 7.30am) , after school club (3.30-5.30pm) and holiday club (Easter and Summer) for busy parents at family friendly, very affordable prices.
The school offers a wide range of sporting activities and were one of the first schools in North Yorkshire to be awarded the Sports Premium Award (2016) for exemplary provision. We were also one of the first Primary Schools to be awarded an RFU Rugby Schools Award in the country (2012) and the first school to receive Yorkshire Spirit of Rugby Award (2016). Our school is a lead representative for sports in regional competition with our children gaining regional and national success in rugby, netball, athletics, hockey, Judo, golf and cross country running. Currently we operate a weekly sports program with Kirkby-in-Malhamdale and Giggleswick Independent School to offer specialised coaching opportunities and competitive festivals for the children. We also engage in the local North Craven Sports Partnership to offer a range sporting competitive events all year round.
Our school also take a lead with outdoor learning opportunities too, making the most of our location in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales and offering annual residential provision to Year 6 pupils in London and Year 5 pupils in the Peak District.
The school has a strong Christian ethos and prides itself on it's Care and Guidance and promoting Christian Values. As a Christian School we have a strong focus on promoting fairness, treating others as you would like to be treated, demonstrating a capacity for forgiveness and respecting other faiths, beliefs and cultures.
The school seeks to be pupil and parent friendly - there is no 'them and us'. I expect us to all work together, sharing a mutual respect and desire to always do the right thing for the School and it's children. We are focused on academic success but also believe in being proactive in developing key life skills and character traits such as resilience and self belief in our pupils. We are a small school but with BIG ambitions.
Thank you you for visiting our site and for showing an interest in our school.
With best wishes
Mr Richard Wright
