The Friends of Settle Primary School, known as the PTFA (Parents, Teachers and Friends Association) meet usually once per half term to plan and run school events that bring the whole school community together. The aim of these can simply be to create a fun event all our children and families can enjoy, or to raise much needed funds to help improve the school, the provision or the enrichment activities for all children.
In the past, funds have been used to improve the school grounds with landscaping and paths, adding picnic benches, contributing to the play equipment, funding school trips and residentials, running egg hunts free of charge, helping provide gifts at Christmas for the children and more recently, raising funds to create a new well-being and sensory garden.
Please see the constitution to read how the PTFA is run and controlled and check back to read the minutes from our meetings. If you would like to be involved, either by joining one or some of the meetings, helping at an event, helping gather items needed for events or simply keeping informed by being added to the PTA email list and/or messenger group, please see one of the PTA members below or email:
Chair: Mrs Leona Harrison:
We’re delighted to welcome Mrs Harrison as the Chair of our PTA this year! She brings great energy and a strong commitment to building a supportive, inclusive school community. As a parent of a child in Year 3, having had two older siblings at our school who have moved onto secondary school, she is passionate about creating meaningful connections between families, staff, and students. She is an invaluable driver behind all our events and is looking forward to leading the PTA again, making this year a fun, productive, and memorable one for everyone involved. We would be lost without her!
Secretary: Mrs Megan Pain
Say hello to our long-standing, committed secretary, Mrs Pain: our wonderful PTA Secretary! She plays a key role in keeping everything running smoothly behind the scenes—taking meeting minutes, managing communications, keeping track of contacts in our messenger group and email list and helping to keep us all super organised. A dedicated parent of a Year 6 pupil, Mrs Pain is excited to support the PTA’s work and help strengthen our school community. We’re very lucky to have benefitted from Mrs Pain's secretarial skills for so long!
Treasurer: Mrs Elizabeth Coultherd
We're excited to introduce Mrs Coultherd as our PTA Treasurer for this year, having done this role for a while now! With amazing organisational skills, a great eye for detail and a passion for helping and sharing her creativity, she is dedicated to keeping our PTA’s finances organised and transparent. She set up our new online banking system and has streamlined how we work. She is a proud parent of twins in Year 6, having had an older child attend our school too who has since moved onto secondary school. Mrs Coultherd supports our school community through careful budgeting and planning, but is always driving all the little extras with an injection of creativity!
School Link: Miss Laura Thompson
Miss Thompson is the Deputy Head, Year 6 teacher and PTA link. She is at every PTA event and meeting to help ensure all events run smoothly and liaises between staff, parents and pupils to make sure everything runs as planned, follows safeguarding protocol and is on hand to offer any advice or clarification for staff when events are being held at our school.
Committee members automatically include volunteers who are parents and also staff at the school.
The PTA needs support from volunteers to take on the different roles and to help at different events. This support is invaluable and without it, the PTA would not be able to run the amazing events that help pull our school community together and raise much needed funds for school..
Often, we will have members/volunteers who are also staff members. We want to clarify that other than the school link, currently Miss Thompson, these staff members are working with the PTA as parents. Any events should not fall on the responsibility of school staff as it is not part of their job. However, we understand these members will have a more in depth knowledge of the school and routines which can at times be very helpful. Whilst staff should be encouraged to join as parent supporters, we aim to keep them more separate by seeking key finance roles to be taken on by other non-staff members wherever possible. At times, we may need a member of staff who is also a parent, to act as a signatory.
We are always struggling to have enough help to run events, so if you can spare any time to help in anyway, big or small, it would be much appreciated! We also have our secretary and treasurer looking to pass on their roles with a full handover and help/support in the summer term. If you think you could offer a small amount of time to cover one of these roles, please email the PTA address above.
Thank you,
From the whole PTA
